The Milky Way, consisting of plants, asteroids, meteors, comets and over 200 billion stars, appears as a pale strip of light that can be seen stretched across our darkest night skies. Stargazers and photographers head to our national parks to enjoy an evening of meteor shower watching, constellation spotting, Milky Way viewing and night sky photography, undisturbed by light pollution of highly-populated areas. The Big Meadows area of Shenandoah National Park is a great place for stargazing, due to its high elevation and relative remoteness from the dense urban areas common on the east coast.
