Description
“Shenandoah National Park was created from nearly 4,000 individually owned properties on land condemned and purchased by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Between 1926 and 1928, Commonwealth surveyors mapped each property within the proposed park boundaries, evaluated the existing buildings, and surveyed orchards and timber. The staff of the Shenandoah National Park Archives recently developed this information into a database. Readers of the database should understand that many of the tracts listed were never ultimately incorporated into the park. The records, organized by county and alphabetically within the county, will be very useful to anyone who is a researcher or a genealogist.
