Description
Shenandoah National Park Civilian Conservation Corps Pin
Designed for young men (ages 16-25) whose families were on relief during the Great Depression, the CCC was proposed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after his inauguration in 1933. The “boys” (as they came to be called) of the CCC settled in camps at Big Meadows and Skyland in May 1933, even before the park itself was officially established. These were the first CCC camps in the National Park Service.
