Shenandoah National Park Association 2019
Greetings. “Spring has sprung” which means that we are already into the second quarter of 2019. By the time this message is posted Dickey Ridge and Byrd Visitor Centers will have opened to receive visitors.
Prior to the opening of Dickey Ridge on Friday, April 5, board members, SNPA staff, and park staff came out to rake leaves on April 3 to prepare the grounds for the opening day of the season, April 5. The bookstore has been renovated and it looks fantastic. Stop by and check out the new look. I think you’ll like it. Eight seminar offerings for 2019 were approved by the board and are posted. The list of subjects include: Trout Fishing in Shenandoah National Park; Painting in the Park; Stories in the Rocks’ Meet the Trees of Shenandoah National Park; Backpacking Basics: A Naturalist View of Shenandoah National Park; Nature Photography in Shenandoah National Park; Mushroom Identification in Shenandoah National Park. Be sure to register for one or more seminars of your choice.
Planning has begun to offer a board training weekend in September. The training will take place at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV. And we’ve started making plans for a 70th Anniversary SNPA Members day in 2020. Save the date on your calendar, Saturday, May 16, 2020.
So, get on out to the park often this year with family, friends, or just a personal trip for a rewarding visit
Sincerely,
Clark Dixon
SNPA Board President
